Today the university teaches 27,000 students, including around 3,900 international students from 120 countries, and employs approximately 6,000 staff. It is renowned for the excellence, impact and distinctiveness of its research-led learning and teaching. Famous for its excellent student social life in a unique city.

Its academic departments are divided into six faculties: Arts and Humanities; Engineering; Medicine, Dentistry and Health; Science; Social Sciences; and International Faculty, City College, Thessaloniki, Greece.

Its motto translates as ‘To discover the causes of things’.

Sheffield can lay claim to five Nobel Prize winners among its alumni and faculty.

Outside of the university itself, which ranks among the top in the UK for student experience, students at Sheffield can enjoy a thriving, cultural city with a reputation for being inexpensive .

The city also benefits from its close proximity to the Peak District, a national park and area of outstanding beauty. It is also within striking distance of other major cities in the North of England, including Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.

The  students come from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds, so English may not be their first language. Yet with the support of  experienced, highly qualified staff, they can achieve their academic and career goals. The college is in a brand new, custom designed building on campus, within the centre of the city. Class sizes are small and learning environments use the latest teaching technology.

The specialist pathways focus on giving  the academic skills needed for the university study as well as the guidance needed  to find the right career path . The world-class University is research led, so new ideas are nurtured here and taught by academics at the forefront of their field. Specialist advisers show students what employers are looking for and how to market themselves – not just their skills and subject knowledge but also their personality and achievements outside the classroom.
