Newcastle University is a public research university in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North-East of England. In 1963, following an Act of Parliament, King's College became the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Newcastle University is a red brick university and is a member of the Russell Group, an association of prestigious research-intensive UK universities. The university has one of the largest EU research portfolios in the UK. Newcastle attracts over 20,000 students from more than 120 different countries.
Teaching and research are delivered in 24 academic schools and 40 research institutes and research centres, spread across three Faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Medical Sciences; and the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering. The university offers around 175 full-time undergraduate degree programmes in a wide range of subject areas spanning arts, sciences, engineering and medicine, together with approximately 340 postgraduate taught and research programmes across a range of disciplines.
The Medical School in Malaysia, NUMed offers full UK medical and biosciences degrees in-country, while in Singapore it offers seven undergraduate degree programmes ranging from engineering to food and human nutrition.

You need a good level of English language to study at Newcastle University.
If English is not your first language you will need to provide a recognised English language test or qualification.
In most cases you will need an overall score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. You will also need at least IELTS 5.5 or equivalent in each of the four sub-skills:

· All students are guaranteed accommodation for their first year of study, provided that they meet certain conditions. A full list of these conditions can be found on the university website.
· Both self-catered and catered accommodation is available and Internet access is provided.
· International students are placed across university accommodation and do not have to move out of their accommodation during the Christmas and Easter vacations.
Most accommodation sites are within 10 minutes' walk of the campus. Some are a little further out, but nothing more than a short Metro or bus journey away
To qualify for the New Students' Guarantee as a undergraduate*, you must:
· have accepted our academic offer to study at Newcastle as your firm choice university
· be enrolled for the full academic year
· be a single student (ie not need accommodation for you and a partner or family)

The guarantee may involve some temporary sharing at the start of term.
