The University of Hertfordshire is a university in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. The university is based largely in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. In 1992, Hatfield Polytechnic was granted university status by the British government and subsequently renamed University of Hertfordshire.

The University of Hertfordshire is an innovative and enterprising university, challenging individuals and organisations to excel. The University of Hertfordshire is an ambitious and entrepreneurial university with an international vision.

The modern institution prides itself on being ‘business-facing’ and claims an innovative approach to teaching, and a wide variety of work placements and overseas study that appeal to employers. All courses are underpinned by industry insight and powerful research with a view to producing employable graduates with the attributes to be successful in professional life. The university has relationships with industry across many areas and a number of successful alumni, promoting enterprise and innovation throughout its prospectus.

A £120million campus upgrade has transformed Hertfordshire in recent years. The investment has given rise to cutting-edge buildings for film and media, and health and human sciences. In 2011, the university opened a new Law School building that includes a state-of-the-art replica of a Crown Court.

Infrastructure developments are on-going with new student residences and service facilities planned for 2020. The university currently has two ‘on campus’ halls to accommodate its student population of 25,000, which includes almost 6,000 international students from around the world.

With lots of outdoor space and sports facilities, the university has plenty to offer. With a strong ecological focus the university is dedicated to protecting the environment, which has been recognised with first class awards in the People & Planet Green League every year since its inception in 2007.

The university also attracts Harry Potter fans as it offers tours to ‘Muggles’ of the Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden where filming took place. Hertfordshire students, via the university’s film and media courses, also worked on the special effects for Harry Potter, as well as films including Clash of the Titans 2X Men and Captain America.

The university is based in the town of Hatfield, renowned for its links with the aerospace industry. Located on two sites, the university offers excellent facilities for sport, 24/7 learning and stylish undergraduate accommodation. The campus is lively, safe and friendly, and houses one of the county's top venues, The Forum.

IELTS Requirements:

Undergraduate Taught : IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher.

Postgraduate Taught : Postgraduate Taught : IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 (depends on course) with no less than 5.5 in any band - some courses require higher.

Foundation:

Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 50% or above

Undergraduate (year 1):

Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 65-70% depending on points tariff required by UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects

Undergraduate (year 2/3):

Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post Standard XII to be considered.

Pre-masters:

Completion of Bachelor degree with 40% or above

Postgraduate Taught:

Completion of Bachelor degree in a relevant subject area with 55-65% or above depending on course

Accommodation for International Students

·        The university guarantees accommodation to all new international students that have applied for campus accommodation by the specified deadline, and who already hold an offer of a place at the university.

As a new student to the University you have a few accommodation options available to you:

  • Live on campus within the University halls of residence or at an off campus University managed property
  • Live off campus within the private rentals sector
  • Living in a university managed accommodation is a great place to find your feet when you're first away from your home. Most international students take up this option.

    Hatfield and the surrounding area is well equipped with plenty of private rented student houses and flats.

    As an international student you will be expected to either have a UK based guarantor, or pay up to 6 months rent in advance. The University is unable to guarantee your rent.

The university has invested hundreds of thousands of pounds in scholarships for high achieving and enterprising students from around the world.They  have a wide range of scholarships available, worth up to £4,000!
